Free Nursery Places for 3-year-olds

Early Education Grant funding is provided by the government to ensure that all 3 and 4-year-olds are free early entitled to receive free early years education. It pays for 15 hours per week free of charge for 38 weeks of the year (term time only) and is paid directly to the nursery.

A child becomes eligible in the term after their third birthday.

Child’s Birthday   When You Can Claim
1 January to 31 March Beginning of term on or after 1 April
1 April to 31 August Beginning of term on or after 1 September
1 September to 31 December Beginning of term on or after 1 January

You can divide the hours claimed between more than one setting, but the total amount claimed cannot be more than the overall weekly entitlement. If any child attends for more than the maximum funded 15 hours per week, the setting will charge for additional services (for example meals) and the extra hours attended at the nursery.

The entitlement can be taken flexibly depending on the availability of spaces. Spaces are reviewed termly and parents must re-apply for the sessions required each term.

Completion of a Parent Declaration form commits parents to receive funding for that term at the nursery.
